Wildlife Drawings & Sketches

Wildlife drawings, field sketches and preparatory studies form the foundation of many of my original wildlife paintings. Observing wildlife directly allows me to study behaviour, movement and structure, providing insights that often find their way into larger finished works. There can be substantial development behind a successful composition and only when ideas feel strong enough will I take them forward as a significant painting. Some paintings have been under development for six months or more before brush touches canvas.

This collection includes original wildlife drawings, artist sketches and studies created both in the field and in the studio. You can also see how some of these sketches and drawings subsequently evolved into finished wildlife paintings.

I’m just sorting through my plan chest to select some more examples of my wildlife drawings. I’ll display more studies shortly.
